The Homfray Trust is a registered charity (No: 214503) established to benefit a wide range of organisations and individuals. The present trustees are David Murray Wells & Richard Murray Wells, who are responsible for investing and distributing the funds for charitable purposes.
The Trust was created in 1928 by Henry James Homfray, who also founded Homfray & Co Ltd, a company employing 3000 people in the 1970's. From incorporation in 1891, until trading ceased in 1982, the main activity was carpet manufacturing in West Yorkshire and Melbourne, Australia.
The trustees, who are direct descendants of Henry James Homfray, continue the policy of their predecessors in assisting former employees and dependants. About 75% of the income of the trust is distributed to 26 charitable funds and organisations, many having links with Halifax and Sowerby Bridge, where a number of former employees still live.
All applications should be directed to the trustees in writing at: Ness Hall, Ness, York, YO62 5XD
