Homfray Hotels is a family owned business. The name Homfray (also spelt Homphray) originates in Yorkshire. It first became a company name almost three hundred years ago in Wales, where Homfray & Co undertook iron mining.

In the late 19th Century Henry Homfray founded the second incarnation of Homfray & Co, moving back to Yorkshire producing carpets in Sowerby Bridge and Halifax. His Great Grandson David Murray Wells, a former director of Homfray & Co, set up Homfray Hotels in recognition of Henry Homfray’s achievements.
