We operate a predominantly arable farm in the heart of Ryedale, though our meadows along the banks of the River Rye have long been grazed by sheep or cattle.
The farm has natural springs that are believed to have been popular with the Romans. There is a patch of water cress in one part of the springs and local folklore has it that this was planted by the Romans. Interestingly a Sarcophagus was unearthed nearby, confirming the Roman presence. We are hoping to be able to bottle this water and provide it in our hotels by 2008.
For the future we are planning to introduce the following home grown products into our hotels:
- Beer
- Cider
- Wine
- Vegetables
- Bread
- Beef
- Lamb
- Venison
- Poultry
- Game
- Fish
- Cut Flowers & Plants
We also intend to review or energy consumption and if posible pursue farm based opportunities.
